When children should be sent to the kindergarten Printable version

Last update: 03.04.2023

children in kindergartenEarly childhood is a period of general development of a child, i.e. development of personality, cognitive sphere, mental processes of physical development, socialization.

The famous poet and philosopher of the Middle Ages, Zhusup Balasuguni once said "All the educational activities you carry out up to the age of five are the content of all your work."

At the present stage of scientific knowledge development about early childhood, the idea of self-worth of the first years of a child's life as the foundation for formation of personality has been confirmed. The primary role in this is given to the family. A child's personality develops in the family, communication skills, relationships, emotional attitude to parents, relatives, and others are formed, which is significant in the subsequent life of a child.

However, care and love of parents do not fill a child's need for communication, development of relations with peers, joint games and interactions. A child needs to attend kindergarten for socialization, development, preparation for school.

The age to attend kindergarten depends on a child, his/her personality, level of development, physical and emotional preparation for significant changes in life.

It is important to prepare a child for pre-school organizations in advance. It is necessary to make it as easy as possible for a child to enter an entirely new life. It will be better if parents have a certain amount of time allocated for psychological and physiological preparation.

When sending a child to kindergarten, parents should know that a child can get used to a pre-school organization within 2-3 months. The task of parents is to support a child, help him/her to overcome the difficulties of adaptation.

In order to successfully adapt a child to kindergarten, it is possible to establish a mobile library in a pre-school organization (in a hall or other premise), where parents and children can listen to poems, songs and other works using a QR code. For further replenishment of library fund, it is recommended to involve parents in preparation of audio recordings together with children (link to the mobile library: https://youtu.be/-ikRidBn75M).

Also, family photos of children can be placed in a hall so that they feel like full members of both their family and a pre-school organization, rejoice at the sight of familiar faces in the photos, admire their family. Such materials are of great importance not only in the process of adaptation, but also in fostering love for one's family and familiarization with family values.

As a joint activity for children and their parents, it is possible to organize decoration of frames with colorful ribbons, flowers and various other materials (https://youtu.be/utc_PknQrgA).

Also, parents need to know that in a pre-school organization:

- a child may experience stress, fear of strangers;

- a child being attached to mother may have problems with adaptation and her "disappearance" may cause a violent protest in a child;

- a child should have established hygienic skills, self-service skills (independently sit on a chair, drink from a cup, use a spoon, participate in dressing, washing, asking to go to toilet , etc.);

- it is necessary to get rid of such habits as sucking a pacifier, walking in diapers, drinking from a bottle, etc., in this case adaptation of a child will be more successful.

For successful adaptation of a child to kindergarten environment, it is necessary to:

observe a daily routine (eating, sleeping, playing games) at home similar to the regime of pre-school organization;

gradually increase the time of a child's stay in kindergarten (2-4-6 hours);

speak with a child about his/her day in order to form a positive attitude towards a kindergarten and other children;

get ready to go to kindergarten the next day in the evening;

adhere to a daily routine adopted in a pre-school organization during weekends and it is advisable to follow the similar types of activities (motor, game, visual, creative, labor, etc.);

if a child totally refuses to go to kindergarten, it is advisable not to attend kindergarten for several days.

Common mistakes of parents that make it difficult for a child to adapt to kindergarten:

do not get angry with a child for crying when parting;

do not scare a child with a kindergarten or a teacher;

do not deceive a child saying that you will come very soon.

By observing the simple rules, it is possible to form the skills and abilities in a child that are useful both in a family and pre-school organization and promote development of independence and successful socialization.
