National University of Defense named after the First President of the Republic of Kazakhstan - Elbasy
By Decree of President of the Republic of Kazakhstan dated February 27, 2002 No. 815 "On reorganization of state institution “Military Academy of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Kazakhstan" and Directive of the Minister of Defense of the Republic of Kazakhstan dated May 2, 2002 No. 1/29/1/1248 "On conducting organization activities in military educational institutions of the Armed Forces Forces of the Republic of Kazakhstan ” the Military Academy of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Kazakhstan was relocated to the Shchuchinsk city of the Kokshetau region.
By Decree of President of the Republic of Kazakhstan dated August 21, 2003 No. 1173 "On measures for military education system improvement", the Military Academy of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Kazakhstan has been transformed into the state institution "National Defense University".
The National Defense University has been educating officers under higher professional education program for the Armed Forces, other troops and military formations of the Republic of Kazakhstan in the following specialties:

In accordance with decision of the Council of Defense Ministers of the Collective Security Treaty Organization of November 30, 2005, the National Defense University has been included in the List of educational institutions for joint training of the military personnel for the armed forces of the member states of the Collective Security Treaty Organization. The Defense University has trained military personnel with postgraduate vocational education.

Military Institute of the Ground Forces
The institute traces its history back to the Alma-Ata Higher Combined Arms Command School (AHCACS), created in 1970 on the basis of the Decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR. By Decree of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan on February 11, 1997 No. 3353 the AHCACS named after I.S.Konev was transformed into the Military Academy of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Kazakhstan. By Decree of President of the Republic of Kazakhstan dated February 27, 2002 No. 815, the Almaty Higher Military School of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Kazakhstan was allocated from the Military Academy.
On October 31, 2003 by Decree of Government of the Republic of Kazakhstan No. 1080, the Almaty Higher Military School of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Kazakhstan was renamed into the Military Institute of the Ground Forces. The main task of the institute is to train highly qualified officers of the ground forces.

Military Institute of Air Defence Forces named after twice Hero of Soviet Union T.Y. Begeldinov
In accordance with decision of the Council of Ministers of Defense of the Collective Security Treaty Organization of November 30, 2005, the Military Institute of the Ground Forces has been included into the List of educational institutions for joint training of military personnel for the armed forces of the member states of the Collective Security Treaty Organization, the military educational institutions of the Republic of Kazakhstan were included.
The Institute has a modern educational and material base, various means of technical training. The lecture halls, training laboratories, classrooms and classrooms of the school are equipped with everything necessary to train military specialists at the modern level of development of science and technology.
In the educational process, modern technical teaching aids are widely used, with the use of computer and computing equipment.
During the existence of the military educational institution, about 10 thousand specialists received a start in life, of which more than 400 graduates performed their military duty in Afghanistan and other hot spots, participated in the peacekeeping operations in Tajikistan and Iraq, for which they were awarded high government awards.
For their courage and heroism, three officers: Shakhvorostov A.E.(posthumously), Akramov N.M. and Gushchin S.N. were awarded the title of Hero of the Soviet Union, and a star discovered by scientists in the constellation Dove was named after Lieutenant Oleg Chivilev.
In 2008, by Decree of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan the high title of "Halyk Kaharmany" was given to Lieutenant General Yertayev B.E.- a graduate of that university.

Military Institute of the Air Defense Forces named after twice Hero of the Soviet Union T.Ya. Begeldinov
The Military Institute of the Air Defense Forces named after twice Hero of the Soviet Union T.Ya. Begeldinov. It was formed by the Government of the Republic of Kazakhstan dated June 4, 1996 No. 688 “On transformation of the Aktobe Higher Civil Aviation School named after twice Hero of the Soviet Union T.Ya. Begeldinov into the Aktobe Higher Military Aviation School named after twice Hero of the Soviet Union T.Ya. Begeldinov”.
On the basis of Resolution of the Government of the Republic of Kazakhstan dated July 10, 2003 No. 684 the Aktobe Higher Military Aviation School named after twice Hero of the Soviet Union T.Ya.Begeldinov was renamed into the Military Institute of Air Defense Forces named after twice Hero of the Soviet Union T.Ya. Begeldinov.

The Military Engineering Institute of Radio Electronics and Communications was formed on the basis of the Military Engineering Institute of Radio Electronics and Communications on the basis of Decree of the Government of the Republic of Kazakhstan No. 1330 dated October 15, 2001 and Directive of the Minister of Defense of the Republic of Kazakhstan No. 1/29/1/068 dated February 20, 2002 (on the basis of the Military Faculty at the Academy of Civil Aviation).

To date, the Institute is the only higher military educational institution in our country, which has conducted the training both officers who could command military teams and exploit radio-electronic means that are in service in the formations and military units of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
To conduct classes at the institute, a required academic material base has been created: excellent auditoriums, educational and methodological rooms, laboratories, classrooms, training complexes, computer classes, language laboratories, equipped with modern equipment.
