The Cadet corps under the Ministry of Defense of the Republic of Kazakhstan was established by Decree of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan
 as of July 1, 1996 No. 3049. The Colours was awarded on July 29, 1999 by the Minister of Defense, Army General M. Altynbayev under the Decision of the Government of the Republic of Kazakhstan as of February 16 , 2000 No. 257 and by Order of the Minister of Defense of the Republic of Kazakhstan as of November 29 , 2000 No. 310 , the Cadet Corps of the Ministry of Defense of the Republic of Kazakhstan was named after Shokan Ualikhanov. By Government Decree No. 570 as of September 11 , 2020 , Sh. Ualikhanov Cadet Corps under the Ministry of Defense of the Republic of Kazakhstan was renamed as Sh. Ualikhanov Military College under the Ministry of Defense of the Republic of Kazakhstan (hereinafter: Sh. Ualikhanov Military College).

Sh. Ualikhanov Military College is a military educational institution that trains junior commanders under the technical and vocational education programs with a training period of 1 year 10 months based on general secondary education in the following specialty and qualifications:

How to enroll to the Military College?

A citizen of the Republic of Kazakhstan has the right to enroll to Sh. Ualikhanov Military College under the following conditions: 

1) citizens who have not completed military service, who have reached the age of seventeen in the year of enrollment, but not older than twenty-two years;

2) citizens who have completed military service, and military personnel undergoing military service until they reach the age of twenty-four in the year of enrollment;

3) military personnel undergoing military service under a contract until they reach the age of twenty-five.

Enrollment is carried out on a competitive basis in accordance with the Rules for admission to military educational institutions approved by an authorized body.

An applicant enrolling to Sh. Ualikhanov Military College from among citizens before May 1 of the year of enrollment applies to a local military administration body at the place of residence.

Head of local military administration arranges the work and sends the relevant documents of an applicant within 10 (ten) working days after they are submitted for a special inspection in accordance with subclause 7) of Article 12 of the Law of the Republic of Kazakhstan "On National Security Bodies of the Republic of Kazakhstan" (hereinafter: Law on the National Security Service of the Republic of Kazakhstan) and passing a preliminary medical examination in accordance with the Rules of military medical examination.

Applicants who have passed a special test and who are physically fit to study, have a certificate of education with an average grade of at least 3.0 or a GPA of at least 2, arrive at Sh. Ualikhanov Military College until July 30 of enrollment year inclusive.

An applicant from among the military personnel submits a corresponding request to the commander of military unit until June 1 for enrollment to Sh. Ualikhanov Military College.

On behalf of a serviceman who expressed a desire to enroll to Sh. Ualikhanov Military College, commander of a military unit organizes the work and sends the relevant documents of an applicant within 10 (ten) working days after they are submitted for a special check in accordance with the Law on the National Security Service of the Republic of Kazakhstan, and a serviceman undergoes a preliminary medical examination in accordance with the Rules of military medical examination.

Applicants who have passed a special test and who are physically fit to study, have a certificate of education with an average grade of at least 3.0 or a GPA of at least 2, arrive at Sh. Ualikhanov Military College until July 30 of enrollment year.

An applicant from among the graduates of the School and "Arystan" specialized lyceum applies to the head of an educational organization in which he/she studies for enrollment to the Sh. Ualikhanov Military College until April 1 of an enrollment year inclusive.

Head of the School and "Arystan" specialized lyceum organizes the work and sends the relevant documents of an applicant within 10 (ten) working days after they are submitted for a special check in accordance with the Law on the National Security Service of the Republic of Kazakhstan as well as for undergoing of a preliminary medical examination in accordance with the Rules of military medical examination.

Graduates who have passed a special test and are physically fit to study are admitted to the commission established by the order of the Minister of Defense of the Republic of Kazakhstan in Schools and "Arystan" specialized lyceum to undergo professional psychological testing and physical training standard.

Graduates of Schools and "Arystan" specialized lyceum, who have passed the professional and psychological selection and passed physical fitness standards and have an average academic score of at least 3.0 or a GPA of at least 2 arrive at Sh. Ualikhanov Military College until August 5 of the year of enrollment to undergo a final medical examination.

During the enrollment period to the Sh. Ualikhanov Military College, applicants are accommodated on the territory and are provided with food according to the standards of food supply, feed, equipment, tableware and kitchen utensils and equipment of the food service of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Kazakhstan for peacetime approved by the Order of the Minister of Defense of the Republic of Kazakhstan as of June 18, 2015 No. 353.

Admission of citizens and military personnel to Military Colleges is carried out from August 1 to August 20 in the following stages:

1st stage: professional and psychological selection;

2nd stage: final medical examination in accordance with the Rules for military medical examination;

3rd stage: physical fitness check;

4th stage: competitive selection and enrollment.

Undergoing of each stage of the competition is allowed once only. An applicant who has not passed the previous stage is not allowed to the next stage.

Aptitude screening of applicants includes verification of motivation level, stress resistance, critical and logical thinking. The screening is carried out by the admissions committee in conjunction with the Educational and Ideological Work Department of the School in coordination with a structural unit. The applicants who were not recommended based on the results of aptitude screening are considered not to pass the stage.

The final medical examination of applicants includes verification of fitness to study at military colleges for health reasons and is carried out by a medical commission established in accordance with the Rules for military medical examination.

Verification of physical fitness of applicants includes acceptance of physical training standards in accordance with the order of the Minister of Defense of the Republic of Kazakhstan as of May 5, 2014 No. 195 "On approval of physical training standards in the Armed Forces of the Republic of Kazakhstan".

Applicants who have scored less than 60 points in total for all the exercises and have not scored the minimum points in two disciplines are considered not to have passed the stage.

The competitive selection is carried out by the admissions committees on August 20 of the enrollment year and includes the compilation of a rating of points received from the maximum to the minimum. The rating is drawn up in the protocols of admissions committees of Military colleges.

The applicants ranking from the first number to the number corresponding to the number of the allocated places based on the enrollment plan are admitted to the School. It is allowed to exceed the enrollment plan up to 10% from the total number of recruits.

The decisions of admissions committees are announced before 10.00 AM on August 21 of the year of admission and are posted on the website and approved on
August 23 by orders of the heads of military colleges. Appeals are accepted until 11.00 AM on August 22.

In case of similar indicators during the competitive selection for admission to Military Colleges, the following individuals have a preferential right:

• orphans and children left without parents;
• graduates of educational institutions with additional military training programs;
• children of servicemen who died, went missing during their service or were disabled during their military service;
• individuals awarded the "Altyn Belgi" badge;
• winners of international Olympiads and competitions of scientific projects (scientific competitions) in general education subjects, republican and international competitions of performers and sports competitions of the last three years, awarded with diplomas of the first and third degrees, the list of which is determined by an authorized body in the field of education, winners of presidential, republican Olympiads and competitions of scientific projects in general education subjects of the current year, awarded with diplomas the first and third degrees, provided that their chosen specialty corresponds to the subject of the Olympiad or competition.

An applicant enrolled to Sh. Ualikhanov Military College concludes a contract for military service with the head of Sh. Ualikhanov Military College.
